H-1B Lottery Completed for FY2018: 199,000 Petitions Received

USCIS announced that the agency has completed the H-1B cap random selection process (or commonly known as the visa lottery) for FY 2018.  On April 7, 2017, USCIS had received enough H-1B petitions to reach the statutory cap of 65,000 visas (and 20,000 additional advanced degree visas) for the fiscal year.

For FY2018, USCIS received a total of 199,000 H-1B petitions during the first five days of filing period.  This compares to 233,000 H-1B petitions received last year for FY2017.

The agency has started issuing filing receipts to the lucky winners.  Cases not selected in the lottery will be returned to petitioners gradually.
