How to apply for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians?

The DHS announced on January 15, 2010 that Haitian nationals are now eligible to apply for Temporary Protected Status (TPS). To apply for such status, one must complete the Form I-821 with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The fee is $50 for first time applicants as of now. There is no application fee for re-registration. An $80 per person fee for biometrics is required for those who are 14 or older. To apply for employment authorization, one must also file the Form I-765 and pay a fee of $340. To be eligible for TPS, the applicant must be a Haitian national, and has been present in the United States since January 12, 2010. TPS allows them to continue staying in the U.S. to live and work for the next 18 months. The forms can be obtained at www.USCIS.gov.
