The last date for registering a worker in next year's H-1B Visa Program is March 20, 2020. This deadline is not extendable. Employers, if you would like to hire any foreign professional workers, you must act immediately. Foreign student graduates who wish to extend their stay in the U.S. must take this last opportunity to register, provided that they have a valid job offer from a U.S. employer.
A foreign student who is F-1 or OPT status may be able to extend their stay in the U.S. if he is selected in the H-1B Visa Program. Typically one may apply to work in H-1B status for 3 years up to a maximum of 6 years. Even if a F-1 student's status ends in the summer, the special rule of cap-gap extension would allow them to stay until the H-1B petition is decided. If the petition approved, the student would be able to stay through October 1st, when H-1B employer begins.
A new online H-1B registration system has been implemented for Fiscal Year 2021. Competition for visa numbers is expected to be high. Interested parties should take this last opportunity to apply.
