Family 2A Visa Category Expected to be Current

In a recent immigration conference held in  Austin, Texas, Charle Oppenheim, Chief of the Visa Office at the State Department announced that the F2A (Family 2nd) preference category will become current in July.  The F2A category is for husbands, wives and unmarried children of green card holders.  The waiting time has been long for this category of applicants.  In June's Visa Bulletin, F2A's cutoff date is still July 15, 2017. To find out how to use the Visa Bulletin, please click here.

The announcement means that F2A applicants may apply for their green cards starting July 1, 2019 if they are present in the United States.  They may also apply for the EAD card and travel document.  Of course, they must have maintained their lawful status in the U.S. and be otherwise eligible for applying for adjustment of status.  It is unclear how long F2A will be current. Hence, eligible applicants should submit their applications as soon as possible.
